Introducing The Big Stevie
The Big Stevie is my dad, Steve Mandic. Our family grew up in Butte, Montana, where we had an old-school, swinging beef, full service butcher shop, D&S Meats. We leased space for the shop inside of Len Ericskon's long-standing neighborhood grocery store, Len's Foods. When Len retired in 1980, our family bought the grocery business and we took over the whole operation. Throughout it's history, our butcher shop would season cuts of meat for free for customers using my dad's homemade seasoning recipe. It was a service we provided for free; we never commercialized the seasoning.
When my folks sold the store in 1995, friends and neighbors around them in Butte, Montana, started asking if my pop could make the seasoning to help them remember the good old days. Their friend Zena Beth McGlashan took it a step further, made labels for my pop, and prodded him to start making and selling the seasoning. TheBigStevie agreed, except for the selling part. He made the seasoning for friends and family on demand when asked. Commercializing it was too much work. (Amen to that.)
So fast forward 20 years when TheBigStevie's oldest kid, Doug Mandic, decides why would he want leisure time on the weekends when he can chew up all of his free time making a commercial product out of this, while TheBigStevie is still around to be amused by the whole thing?
And thus is born Big Stevie's Original Recipe Seasoning, soon to be followed by a line of other seasonings and related goof-off products.
If you're lucky enough to live near me or my folks, you can buy some from us directly. For the rest of you, the seasoning is available on Amazon. Check back to see progress, or click the 'contact' section to connect with me and I'll send you a note when it's available in a store near you.
Thanks for stopping by!
